Title: High School/Middle School Strength & Conditioning Coach

Reports to: High School Athletic Director

Contract: 260-Day Position

Job Objective:

Develops, implements, and oversees a comprehensive strength and conditioning program that promotes student health, safety, injury prevention, physical development, and athletic performance for students in grades 7-12.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor''s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Athletic Training, Sports Performance, or related field preferred.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or equivalent nationally recognized certification preferred.
  • Experience designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for adolescent athletes preferred.
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification or ability to obtain.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of strength and conditioning principles, exercise physiology, movement mechanics, injury prevention, and athletic development.
  • Demonstrates the ability to establish positive working relationships with students, coaches, athletic trainers, parents, administrators, and staff.
  • Exhibits effective communication, organization, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, dependability, professionalism, and the ability to work independently.
  • Available to work flexible hours including mornings, evenings, weekends, school breaks, and summer programming.
  • Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
  • Meets mandated health screening requirements following a conditional offer of employment.
  • Demonstrates core computer competencies appropriate for the position.

Essential Functions:

  1. Develops and implements comprehensive strength and conditioning programs that promote student health, safety, and athletic performance.:
  • Designs age-appropriate, sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for middle school and high school student-athletes.
  • Develops year-round programming that supports off-season, pre-season, in-season, and post-season athletic development.
  • Provides individualized modifications based on student needs, physical development, injury history, and athletic goals.
  • Teaches proper lifting techniques, movement mechanics, flexibility, mobility, and recovery strategies.
  • Promotes safe use of all fitness and weight room equipment.
  • Implements evidence-based practices that improve athletic performance while reducing preventable injuries.
  • Evaluates and adjusts training programs based on student progress and current best practices.
  1. Promotes student safety, wellness, and injury prevention.
  • Ensures proper supervision of weight room activities before school, during the school day, after school, and during summer programming.
  • Oversees all strength and conditioning activities.
  • Collaborates with athletic trainers regarding injury prevention strategies, rehabilitation progressions, and return-to-play programming.
  • Educates students on nutrition, hydration, sleep, recovery, flexibility, mobility, and healthy training habits.
  • Promotes lifelong wellness, healthy decision-making, and physical fitness.
  • Maintains high standards for safety and proper equipment use.
  1. Collaborates with coaches and athletic department personnel to support district athletic programs.
  • Works closely with the Athletic Director to coordinate district-wide strength and conditioning programming.
  • Collaborates with coaches to develop training plans that complement seasonal practice and competition schedules.
  • Provides guidance and support to coaches regarding safe and effective training methods.
  • Coordinates programming with middle school and high school athletic programs to promote continuity of athlete development.
  • Assists with athletic department initiatives that support student-athlete success.
  1. Coordinates weight room operations and athletic performance resources.
  • Assists with scheduling use of district weight room facilities.
  • Works collaboratively with weight room supervisors to ensure adequate supervision during training sessions.
  • Maintains a safe, organized, and efficient training environment.
  • Monitors equipment condition and recommends maintenance, repair, or replacement as needed.
  • Maintains inventories of equipment and training resources.
  • Supports facility scheduling and logistics for athletic programming.
  1. Supports district goals through leadership and program development.
  • Assists with implementing initiatives related to student wellness, safety, and athletic performance.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness and recommends improvements based on current research and best practices.
  • Maintains training schedules, participation records, and program documentation.
  • Promotes equitable access to quality strength and conditioning opportunities for all student-athletes.
  • Supports a positive culture emphasizing discipline, accountability, leadership, teamwork, and personal growth.
  1. Exemplifies professionalism and fosters positive relationships.
  • Develops mutually respectful relationships with students, families, staff, and community members.
  • Serves as a positive role model for sportsmanship, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding student and personnel information.
  • Enforces district policies, procedures, and safety expectations.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and appropriate work attire.
  • Maintains acceptable attendance and punctuality.
  • Performs all assigned duties in a manner that promotes a positive work and learning environment.
  1. Maintains effective communication.
  • Communicates effectively with administrators, coaches, athletic trainers, students, parents, and staff.
  • Participates in athletic department meetings and professional collaboration.
  • Maintains accurate records and submits required reports in a timely manner.
  • Responds promptly to communications and provides appropriate updates regarding programming and student progress.
  • Uses effective listening and problem-solving skills to address concerns collaboratively.
  1. Pursues professional growth.
  • Maintains required certifications and professional credentials.
  • Participates in continuing education related to strength and conditioning, sports performance, injury prevention, and student wellness.
  • Remains current on industry standards, research, and best practices.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement and lifelong learning.
  1. Takes precautions to ensure safety.
  • Maintains a safe environment for all participants.
  • Complies with district emergency procedures and crisis response protocols.
  • Recognizes and responds appropriately to unsafe conditions.
  • Complies with district procedures and federal/state laws regarding student safety, discrimination, harassment, and suspected child abuse or neglect.
  • Maintains current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
  1. Performs other specific job-related duties as assigned.
  • Assists with special events and athletic department initiatives.
  • Supports district and athletic department goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or district administration.

Working Conditions:

Safety is essential to job performance. Employees must exercise caution and comply with all district safety regulations while performing duties that include:

  • Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and demonstrating physical exercises.
  • Lifting, carrying, moving, and organizing athletic equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Exposure to noise, moving mechanical equipment, and fitness equipment.
  • Supervising large groups of students before, during, and after school.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and blood-borne pathogens consistent with athletic activities.
  • Operating district vehicles or traveling between district facilities as required.
