Job Title: High School Prep/Prep Bridge Program Manager

Position Summary

The High School Prep/Prep Bridge Program Manager oversees the day-to-day program operations and student management throughout the High School Prep academic year and summer program and the Prep Bridge academic year program.

The High School Prep/Prep Bridge Program Manager is required to work 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays from September – June with additional at home planning hours and weekly team meetings for an average of twenty hours per week. The High School Prep/Prep Bridge Manager is required to work 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday during the 5-week summer program with additional planning and training requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Construction of all program schedules and calendars.
  • Engage in regular communication with HSP/PB parents.
  • Work with other staff to provide program reports and student data in accordance with stated timeframes.
  • Maintain program records in a timely manner and student database for the purpose of end of year evaluations.
  • Work with Middle School Prep/PB and High School Prep staff to ensure successful student transition into High School Prep.
  • Maintain positive relationships and communication with all Buffalo Prep staff, students, and parents/guardians of students.
  • Work with students on behavior and/or academic improvement plans as needed.
  • Plan and facilitate all HSP/PB field trips and events such as but not limited to, orientation, graduation and parent/teacher conferences.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the President and Chief Program Officer.
  • Meet with students and lead discussions as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with all program and management staff regarding student counseling issues. Refer students to Child and Family Services as needed.
  • Serve as a mentor and counselor to students and help with academic and/or social-emotional issues as they arise.
  • Represent Buffalo Prep at public and special interest meetings and on external committees as determined by the needs of the program.
  • Attend and assist in pertinent planning for Buffalo Prep events including but not limited to Prep in Action, Prep for Dinner, and the Celebration of Achievement.
  • Adheres to all policies including Buffalo Prep’s Stop Light Policy and mandated reporting as outlined by NYS Office of Children and Family Services.
  • Attend ongoing professional development that enhances learning for your role, department, organizational mission and initiatives, and culture.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, counseling or related field.
  • 3 years’ experience providing academic support and counseling to middle school students.
  • Counseling with a focus on academic preparation, time management, socialization, and other skills that pertain to academically gifted middle school students.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite and a familiarity with online platforms such as Constant Contact, EZ Texting and student information systems is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to engage students, listen effectively, and provide guidance for academically talented economically challenged underrepresented middle school students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must possess the ability to work with a number of constituencies including students and their families, Buffalo Prep Staff, Board of Directors, and others.
  • Willingness to engage in study and implementation of culturally relevant and sustaining pedagogy, curriculum, and classroom management.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to network with other community service providers (schools, community groups, libraries, etc.) to recruit students for the program.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, diplomacy, patience and a sense of humor.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
