High-Voltage Cable & Feedthrough Assembly Technician

Got a knack for wiring it right the first time?

If assembling and validating mission-critical power paths excites you, this role puts you at the center of our compressor and turbine builds. You’ll craft conduit, install instrumentation, and assemble/test electrical power cables, feedthroughs, support assemblies, and VMS bulkheads—then wire units for final shipment.

What will I build?

• Conduit runs formed to spec; switches and signals installed per drawings.
• Electrical and mechanical instrumentation for compressor/turbine testing.
• Electrical power cables and system electrical feedthroughs, plus power cable support assemblies.
• Vibration Monitoring System (VMS) feedthroughs and bulkheads.

What tests will I perform?

• Hipot (AC/DC) up to 30 kV for 60 seconds on power cables and feedthroughs.
• Megger (DC) up to 10 kV for 60 seconds on electrical components.
• Helium leak checks on VMS feedthroughs and ammonia pump flex conduits up to 100 PSIG with 5 minutes of continuous monitoring.
• Troubleshooting using resistance/voltage checks to validate connection integrity.

How will I do it?

• Start with instructions from supervision, plus wiring diagrams and work orders.
• Interpret complex drawings; determine materials, methods, and tooling; sketch when drawings aren’t available.
• Fabricate parts with shop machines and hand tools; bend and thread conduit accurately.
• Install wiring per drawings, bills of material, and short forms across product lines.
• Use computers to pull drawings, send email, and run test/wiring software.

Who will I work with and what else is expected?

• Partner with Instrumentation Specialists; perform shaft surface micropeening for vibration analysis.
• Operate overhead and jib cranes; drive forklifts and other material handling equipment.
• Perform stud welding and operate a portable welder when required.
• Prepare a daily log of progress, issues, and corrections; report time and job identifiers to the foreman.
• Keep tools, machines, and areas clean; store materials properly; report defects and hazards; follow all safety rules.

What tools and materials are in play?

• Test instruments (hipot, megger, helium leak detector), Worksaver, DLRO.
• Power hand tools, grinders, drill press, soldering gear, small machines, and hand tools.
• Conduit benders, pipe threading machines; motor generator; stud welding gun; portable welder.
• Overhead cranes and material handling equipment.
• Relay/control equipment; switches; panel boards; insulation; wire/cable hardware; solder; conduit piping; steel supports; joint sealing compounds; electrical epoxy; power cables and feedthroughs; VMS components.

What do I need to qualify?

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Flexibility to work 1st (7am–3pm), 2nd (3pm–11pm), or 3rd (11pm–7am) shifts; shifts are not guaranteed.
• Availability for overtime, weekends, and holidays.

What skills set me up for success?

• Reading electrical schematics and blueprints; solid shop math.
• Soldering proficiency; experience with high-voltage systems.
• Conduit pulling; mechanical assembly skills.

Measurement & test tech you’ll use

• Digital Low Resistance Ohm Meter (DLRO) (Megger).
• Calipers and micrometers.
