JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is structure and craft work as a Master electrician involving the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and related equipment. Responsibilities include performing skilled electrical tasks in accordance with standard trade practices and maintaining High Voltage (12,750 volts) electrical systems. Assignments may be accompanied by penciled sketches, diagrams, and blueprints. This level of work is differentiated from the Electrician II level in that employees in this class, because of their license and special training, work with High Voltage (HV). Work is performed under limited supervision.

REPRESENTATIVE TASKS:
  • Supervises and assists with designs, installation, maintenance, and emergency repairs to High Voltage (12,750 volts) and Low Voltage (< 600 volts) systems in order to ensure safe installation and operations of electrical systems.
  • Installs, alters, maintains, and repairs wiring, lighting, electric power appliances and machinery, overhead circuits, sophisticated electronics, and underground conduits in order to ensure safe installation and operations and ensure user needs are met.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs electric motors and generators in order to ensure safe installation and operation.
  • Installs and performs major electrical repairs on refrigeration units, dishwashers, hotplates, fans, ovens, ranges, and water heaters in order to ensure safe and proper operation.
  • Installs, maintains and repairs intercom systems, bridge controls, signal timers, traffic signals, and other electrical apparatus in order to ensure safe and proper operation.
  • Plans and lays out electrical jobs in order to estimate materials needed and time required for completion.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Knowledge of the State and National Electrical Code.
  • Knowledge of the methods, theories, and principles of electricity and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of the tools, materials, methods, and practices of the electrical trade.
  • Knowledge of HV electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions common to the electrical trade including HV systems.
  • Ability to detect and overcome defects in HV and related electrical systems, equipment, and appliances.
  • Ability to use HV and other electrical test equipment properly.
  • Ability to work with HV electrical systems and generators.
  • Ability to understand and explain technical sketches, diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Ability to operate a bucket loader and related equipment.
  • Ability to direct the work of skilled electricians and helpers.
  • Ability to plan and lay out electrical work for others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Current valid Master Electrician's license as issued by the Electrician's Examining Board.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Master Electrician's license as issued by the Electrician's Examining Board. Some positions may require a Certificate of Special Training in High Voltage work. Some positions may require a State of Maine Class C motor vehicle operator's license.
