Executive ServiceThe MDTA owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes across Maryland. We are committed to quality and excellence in customer service, relying on our employees to achieve these goals.Nature of WorkThe Highway Discipline Manager serves in the Office of Engineering and Construction, leading management and coordination of major highway interchange projects, highway design and toll plaza projects, minor facility rehabilitation projects, and highway studies.Manage, plan, and design complex highway‑related projects including major interchange, toll plaza, and minor facility rehabilitation projects, and highway studies.Coordinate public involvement, including preparation for public meetings, workshops, and creation of handouts, color display boards, computer‑rendered photos, and graphic exhibits.Attend public meetings to address citizen questions.Review and evaluate technical proposals for consultant contract selection.Contract management: evaluate and analyze project schedules and resource requirements to ensure timely completion; evaluate cost efficiency and scope of services; monitor task progress, issues, and budgets; review invoices to manage contract costs.Manage and preserve highway pavements and traffic barrier assets.This position reports to the Deputy Director of Engineering (and/or other designated official). The current vacancy is in Baltimore, Maryland. Hybrid telework schedules may be available.BenefitsMDTA employees are offered a generous benefits package including at least 11 paid holidays, at least 27 days of leave annually (personal, vacation, sick), access to the State Pension System, deferred compensation plans, excellent health, dental, and vision plans.Preferred QualificationsPossession of a Maryland Professional Engineer license is required; evidence of license must be presented at appointment.Three years of experience managing highway engineering projects as a licensed professional engineer, with at least two years supervising employees or a design team.Extensive experience in highway engineering design and project management, including development and review of plans, specifications, estimates, and coordination for permitting and procurement.Two years of experience working in the Federal Government.License and Motor VehicleApplicants holding a Professional Engineer license in a state with comparable requirements acceptable to Maryland may be accepted but must obtain a Maryland license within 12 months of appointment; evidence of out‑of‑state license must be presented at appointment. Applicants must list license number, issue date, and expiration date.Employees in this classification are required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in Maryland.
