Highway Project Manager

Overview

The Highway Project Manager leads complex transportation projects from initiation through completion, managing scope, schedule, and budget while ensuring high-quality technical delivery. This role coordinates multidisciplinary teams, maintains client relationships, and supports business development and strategic growth initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage highway and transportation projects end-to-end, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Develop and execute project management plans, including QA/QC processes.
  • Create and maintain project schedules, tracking milestones and progress.
  • Coordinate internal teams and subconsultants to deliver quality outcomes.
  • Monitor project performance, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Manage change orders, task proposals, and project documentation.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and updates to stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present project progress reports, including financial and schedule updates.
  • Review invoices for accuracy and support timely billing.
  • Lead client meetings and presentations, clearly communicating technical approaches and next steps.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while aligning delivery with client goals.
  • Participate in financial tracking, forecasting, and internal reporting.
  • Support proposals, marketing efforts, and business development initiatives.
  • Contribute to strategic growth planning with leadership.
  • Apply engineering expertise to support design decisions and quality control.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and internal procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited) or related field.
  • Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 10+ years of highway or transportation engineering and project management experience.
  • Proven experience managing scope, schedule, and budget on complex projects.
  • Strong leadership and team coordination skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP or CAPM certification.
  • Experience with Texas public-sector or transportation clients.
  • Proposal development and interview preparation experience.
  • QA/QC process development experience.
  • Experience in strategic growth and business development.
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of McKinney, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $135000.00 - $180000.00/yr.
