Build North Yorkshire's Infrastructure with NY Highways

Are you an experienced highways construction professional looking for your next challenge?

At NY Highways, quality craftsmanship can be seen across North Yorkshire, from major highways schemes to local community improvements.  We are expanding our External Works team and we're looking for a highly skilled individual with experience delivering quality highways and civil engineering projects. From major drainage improvements and kerbing schemes to paving and public realm works, you'll play a key role in projects that improve communities across North Yorkshire.

The role is specifically working for the county's Highways Service, so travel as part of the role will only ever be within North Yorkshire, a big benefit if you want to limit work related travel time.

This is an opportunity to join a stable, growing organisation with a guaranteed programme of work and involvement in a range of exciting, large-scale infrastructure projects across the county.

Whether your background is in highways construction, groundworks, civil engineering or public realm improvements, we'd like to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Highly Skilled Craftsperson, you'll be responsible for delivering high-quality construction and maintenance works across a range of highways and infrastructure projects.

Your work will include:

  • High-quality paving, kerbing and drainage installation works
  • Delivering highways construction and improvement schemes
  • Reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications
  • Working as part of a skilled site team on projects ranging from local improvements to major civil engineering schemes
  • Operating plant, tools and specialist equipment safely and effectively
  • Ensuring all work is completed to the required quality, safety and performance standards
  • Working across North Yorkshire, with travel to sites throughout the county (company vehicle provided)

What We're Looking For

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have:

Essential

  • Experience working in highways maintenance, construction, civil engineering or groundworks
  • Confidence and competence in high-standard finishing works including paving, kerbing and drainage
  • Knowledge of highways construction schemes and site operations
  • Experience working on medium to large-scale construction projects
  • Strong health and safety awareness
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • NRSWA Operative accreditation (Modules 01-08)
  • Plant certification such as NPORS or CPCS
  • SSSTS (Site Supervisors' Safety Training Scheme)
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings
  • Experience operating plant including excavators, dumpers and rollers

Why Join NY Highways?

Unlike many contractors, NY Highways offers the security of a permanent role backed by a long-term partnership with North Yorkshire Council, alongside opportunities to work on a diverse portfolio of highways and infrastructure schemes.

In return, we offer:

  • Competitive salary with annual pay progression
  • Training and development, including specialist plant, safety and highways certifications
  • Generous annual leave entitlement of 24 - 29 days plus bank holidays
  • Job stability through our partnership with North Yorkshire Council
  • Supportive working environment with strong safety and wellbeing culture
  • Royal London pension scheme with employer contributions up to 6%
  • Access to staff benefits including Vivup, Cycle to Work and Employee Assistance

Be Part of Something Bigger

NY Highways manages and improves nearly 5,800 miles of roads across one of England's largest counties. Our External Works team delivers a growing programme of civil engineering and infrastructure projects, helping to shape the future of North Yorkshire.

If you're proud of delivering quality workmanship and want to be part of a team that's making a visible difference across the region, we'd love to hear from you.
