Description
HillmanHughes Brothers Construction is now hiring! We are a heavy civil contractor specializing in large site infrastructure, underground utilities and roadway construction throughout Central Florida. HBC offers competitive pay, a robust benefits package and the chance to join a legacy built on hard work, trust and pride in every project!The Hillman is a key member of the underground utility crew responsible for preparing and grading trenches to ensure proper pipe installation. This position works closely with the Excavator Operator, Pipe Layer, and Tailman to establish correct line and grade for storm, sewer, and water systems on heavy civil construction projects.Responsibilities:
Fine grade trenches to proper elevation and slope for pipe installation
Check and verify line and grade using lasers, grade rods, and levels
Assist in laying storm, sanitary sewer, and water main pipe
Ensure proper trench bedding preparation
Communicate clearly with equipment operators using hand signals
Maintain trench safety and ensure compliance with safety regulations
Assist with placement of manholes, inlets, and structures
Backfill and compact around installed utilities as directed
Keep tools, equipment, and work area clean and organized
Follow all company safety policies and OSHA trenching standards
Desired Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Ability to read grade stakes and use measuring tools
Strong understanding of trench safety and excavation practices
Basic knowledge of pipe installation processes
Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift to 40 pounds
Strong understanding of construction principles and procedures
Ability to work independently or as an active member of a team
Out-of-town travel and/or overtime is a possibility
High school diploma or GED preferred
English and Spanish fluency a plus, but not required
