Engineering Technician (Hourly)

Position Summary

The Engineering Technician is responsible for supporting the Engineering and Maintenance departments by performing preventive maintenance (PMs), routine inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintaining facility equipment. This hourly position plays a key role in ensuring guest rooms and building systems remain safe, functional, and well-maintained while minimizing equipment downtime.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PMs) in guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces according to established maintenance schedules.
  • Inspect guest rooms to ensure HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, appliances, doors, windows, and fixtures are operating properly.
  • Complete maintenance work orders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC issues within the scope of the position.
  • Replace filters, belts, light fixtures, batteries, and other routine maintenance components.
  • Document completed PMs, repairs, and inspections accurately in the maintenance management system.
  • Report equipment deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Follow all OSHA safety standards, company policies, and departmental procedures.
  • Respond to maintenance emergencies as needed.
  • Assist with facility improvement projects, renovations, and equipment installations.
  • Communicate professionally with guests and team members while working in occupied rooms.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One to three years of building maintenance, hotel maintenance, or engineering experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and general maintenance practices.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
  • Basic computer skills for completing work orders and maintenance records.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at varying heights.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.

Work Schedule

  • Hourly, non-exempt position.
  • May require weekends, holidays, evenings, and on-call availability based on business needs.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in hospitality or commercial facilities maintenance.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs.
  • HVAC certification or trade certifications are a plus but not required.
