Night Laundry Attendant / Houseman (Public Area Attendant)
Department: Housekeeping
Reports To: Executive Housekeeper / Assistant General Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Position Summary
The Night Laundry Attendant/Houseman is responsible for ensuring an adequate supply of clean hotel linens while maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, and safety of all public areas throughout the hotel during overnight hours. This position plays an essential role in preparing the property for the following day's operations by completing laundry production, public area cleaning, light housekeeping support, and general houseman duties.
Essential Job Functions
Laundry Responsibilities
- Wash, dry, fold, and organize all hotel linens, towels, bedding, and uniforms.
- Operate commercial washers, dryers, and laundry equipment safely and efficiently.
- Inspect linens for stains, damage, and excessive wear.
- Remove damaged linens from service according to hotel procedures.
- Maintain proper inventory levels of clean linens for housekeeping and food & beverage departments.
- Keep the laundry room clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Properly use and store all cleaning chemicals according to safety guidelines.
- Notify management of equipment malfunctions or supply shortages.
Houseman / Public Area Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize all public restrooms.
- Vacuum and mop all lobby areas, hallways, elevators, and meeting space corridors.
- Dust furniture, fixtures, artwork, and decorative items.
- Clean entrance doors, windows, and glass surfaces.
- Empty trash and recycling throughout the property.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the front entrance and porte cochere.
- Clean employee break rooms, offices, and back-of-house areas as assigned.
- Spot clean walls, doors, baseboards, and elevators.
- Maintain cleanliness of fitness center, business center, and meeting rooms.
- Replenish restroom supplies and guest amenities in public spaces.
- Assist with meeting room setup and breakdown when needed.
Housekeeping Support
- Deliver linens and supplies to housekeeping closets.
- Stock housekeeping carts and storage rooms.
- Remove dirty linen and trash from housekeeping areas.
- Assist room attendants with heavy lifting or furniture movement.
- Respond promptly to guest requests for towels, linens, cribs, or other amenities.
- Report maintenance issues observed throughout the hotel using the hotel's work order system.
- Assist with deep cleaning projects as assigned.
Safety & Security
- Follow all hotel safety procedures and emergency protocols.
- Practice proper lifting techniques and safe chemical handling.
- Secure all housekeeping and laundry areas.
- Report suspicious activity, accidents, hazards, or safety concerns immediately.
- Ensure all equipment is shut down and secured before leaving the shift.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous hotel housekeeping or laundry experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Dependable with excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Positive attitude and commitment to guest service.
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and reach.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Push and pull fully loaded laundry carts and housekeeping carts.
- Work in warm, humid laundry conditions and throughout all areas of the hotel.
Schedule
- Overnight shift, including weekends and holidays as required by hotel occupancy and business needs.
Performance Expectations
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the hotel.
- Complete nightly laundry production to support daily housekeeping operations.
- Ensure public areas are guest-ready before the morning shift begins.
- Demonstrate reliability, teamwork, professionalism, and a sense of urgency.
- Follow all Hilton brand standards and hotel operating procedures.
- Deliver courteous and professional service to guests and fellow team members.
