Contract Length: 3 months with possibility of extension.
Pay Rate: $25.80 per hour without benefits
Duties: Job SummaryThe HIM Specialist I is responsible for processing and maintaining protected health information (PHI) in accordance with organizational, federal, state, and accrediting agency standards. Responsibilities include record maintenance, scanning, indexing, retrieval, analysis, deficiency management, and processing Release of Information (ROI) requests while providing professional and timely support to patients and care teams.
Key Responsibilities- Sort, scan, index, store, retrieve, and maintain patient medical records.
- Process Release of Information (ROI) requests from internal and external customers.
- Analyze medical records for accuracy, completeness, duplication, and deficiencies.
- Identify and correct errors in patient records while maintaining data integrity.
- Report and manage record deficiencies according to department guidelines.
- Prioritize scanning and record requests based on patient needs and upcoming appointments.
- Assist care teams with patient record access and retrieval needs.
- Communicate professionally with patients, providers, and internal departments.
- Follow established HIM workflows, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Work effectively as part of a highly coordinated, multidisciplinary team.
Required Qualifications- High School Diploma/GED.
- 1 year of related experience preferred/required per job specification.
- 1–3 years of progressive HIM experience preferred.
- Student in an AHIMA-accredited program is a plus.
- RHIT, RHIA, CCA, or CCS certification is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, organization, and communication skills.
