Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Histology Technician to join our overnight laboratory team. This role is responsible for preparing human tissue specimens for microscopic examination and diagnostic interpretation through a variety of histologic techniques, including grossing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and slide preparation. The ideal candidate is committed to quality, accuracy, patient care, and maintaining a safe and compliant laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare human tissue specimens for microscopic examination using histology techniques including grossing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting
- Perform routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining procedures and assist with special stains and immunohistochemistry procedures as requested
- Complete recuts and additional staining procedures according to Pathologist requests
- Operate and maintain computerized laboratory equipment used in tissue processing and preservation
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous chemical waste in accordance with regulatory guidelines
- Maintain accurate documentation and follow established laboratory protocols and quality standards
- Work effectively in a high-volume laboratory environment while meeting turnaround times and productivity expectations
- Maintain strict confidentiality and ensure compliance with all privacy and security requirements related to Protected Health Information (PHI)
- Support laboratory safety initiatives and contribute to a collaborative team environment
Qualifications & Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Science and completion of a histotechnology program preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of histology experience or formal histologic technique training preferred; new graduates are encouraged to apply
- Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) preferred
- State licensure, if applicable
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform precise technical procedures
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced laboratory environment
- Comfortable working with biological specimens and chemical hazards while following safety protocols
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of laboratory training or experience in a high-volume laboratory setting
- Hands-on experience with special stains and immunohistochemistry procedures
- Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
