Histology Technician at Consolidated Pathology Nashville

The Histology Technician implements the laboratory mission, goals and objectives by exemplifying the short and long-term vision, values and goals of the laboratory by providing professional service in the performance of job functions. General duties include:

  • Meets all responsibility requirements established by the Supervisor, Laboratory Services and Assistant Manager, Laboratory Services.
  • Responsible for the preparation of tissue specimens for microscopic evaluations by the pathologist, including surgical, research and outside cases.
  • Assumes responsibility for quality of tissue slides, following technical and quality control procedures.
  • If qualified, performs tissue grossing as non-pathologist grosser.
  • Maintains work area equipment supplies. Performs special techniques including special stains.
  • Monitors compliance with safety regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as needed.
  • Indirectly oversee the work of laboratory assistants.
  • May participate in training of other lab personnel.

  • High school diploma, associate degree, or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college or university, equivalent in laboratory experience, or registered as Histology Technician HT (ASCP) preferred.
  • Must be HT or HTL certified or meet the requirements and be eligible for certification.
