  • Monday Friday | 12:00 PM 8:30 PM
  • Monday Friday | 10:00 PM 6:30 AM

Job Summary

We are seeking a Histotechnician (HT) to join a histology team in Nashville, TN. This position is responsible for preparing human tissue specimens for microscopic examination, with a primary focus on embedding, microtomy, tissue sectioning, special stains, and immunohistochemistry (IHC).

The ideal candidate will have hands-on histology experience and the ability to consistently produce high-quality tissue sections while following established quality, safety, and laboratory procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Embed various types of human tissue specimens for histologic examination.
  • Perform microtomy and section paraffin-embedded tissue according to established protocols.
  • Follow established procedures for tissue embedding, sectioning, and slide preparation.
  • Perform special stains and immunohistochemistry (IHC) procedures as directed.
  • Maintain fresh laboratory solutions, stains, reagents, and other necessary materials.
  • Perform and maintain appropriate quality control throughout histology processes.
  • Keep embedding areas, microtomes, and workstations clean, organized, and properly maintained.
  • Assist with case assembly and distribution as needed.
  • File and organize tissue blocks and slides.
  • Properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials and laboratory waste.
  • Assist with documentation and maintenance of departmental quality assurance (QA) programs.
  • Follow all laboratory safety precautions and established procedures.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and protect sensitive health information.
  • Follow applicable regulatory, compliance, privacy, and security requirements.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of on-the-job histology training or documented formal histology training required.
  • Minimum of one year of histology laboratory experience required, specifically performing microtomy and/or tissue embedding.
  • Hands-on experience with paraffin-embedded tissue sectioning.
  • Experience with special stains and/or IHC preferred.
  • Knowledge of histology laboratory procedures, quality assurance, and quality control practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently produce high-quality tissue sections.
  • Ability to properly handle tissue specimens, stains, reagents, and hazardous materials.
  • Must maintain appropriate continuing education for certification, when applicable.
