Job Description
Are you passionate about histology and seeking a rewarding career opportunity? We are currently seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join our team in Long Island, New York, on a permanent basis. Your expertise will play a crucial role in our laboratory's operations, contributing to the vital process of specimen embedding, microtomy, quality control/quality assurance, and more.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform specimen embedding and microtomy with precision and accuracy.
Actively participate in quality control/quality assurance procedures.
Efficiently file blocks and slides, ensuring accurate documentation and distribution.
Contribute to supply inventory management and ordering processes, if applicable.
Utilize LIS (Laboratory Information System), Powerpath, and Omni-Trax effectively.
Master the use of the Cryostat for the preparation of frozen sections.
Maintain and troubleshoot histology equipment, including tissue processors, staining machines, and others.
Perform slide cover slipping and labeling with attention to detail.
Execute H/E and special staining techniques and prepare solutions as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
NYSDOH (New York State Department of Health) licensure as a Certified Clinical Laboratory Histotechnician, Histotechnologist, Technician, or Technologist.
An Associate's Degree from a relevant course of study as defined by NYS clinical laboratory licensing requirements.
A high school degree will be considered only if the individual possesses the designated experience defined by NYS and has obtained their NYS license through the grandparenting pathway defined by NYS.
Experience in a surgical pathology laboratory for a minimum of 6 months to 1 year.
Exposure to computer systems and proficiency in relevant software.
Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and other stakeholders.
PAY RANGE: Depends on experience ($35 - $55 / hour)
