Summary
The HMS Assistant Cross Country Coach will support the head coach in the development and management of the cross-country program at Hamilton Middle School. This position involves assisting with training sessions, fostering a positive team environment, and promoting the physical and emotional well-being of student-athletes. The ideal candidate will have a passion for running, a commitment to student development, and the ability to inspire and motivate young athletes.
Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach in planning and conducting daily practices and training sessions.
- Support the recruitment and retention of student-athletes for the cross country team.
- Monitor student-athlete progress and provide feedback to enhance performance and personal growth.
- Help organize and supervise team events, including meets, fundraisers, and team-building activities.
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and a positive attitude among team members.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during practices and events.
- Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, and school administration regarding team activities and expectations.
- Assist in maintaining equipment and ensuring that facilities are prepared for practices and competitions.
- Attend all scheduled meets and events, providing support and guidance to the athletes.
- Collaborate with other coaches and staff to enhance the overall athletic program at Hamilton Middle School.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college education in a related field preferred.
- Previous experience in coaching or assisting with a cross country or distance running program is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of cross country running techniques, training methods, and competition rules.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students and staff.
- Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes to achieve their personal best.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- First Aid and CPR certification is preferred or must be obtained within the first six months of employment.
- A commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive team culture.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends for practices and competitions as needed.
- Ability to pass a fingerprint-based background check per school board policy.
