Responsible for the upkeep and care of the holding barn and aiding the onsite racing officials during live horse racing.
Essential Job Functions:
Maintains a clean and sanitary worksite
Calls horses up to holding barn for each race
Weigh each horse upon arrival
Input weights in the computer for each race
Provide numbered vests for grooms
See that horses leave on time for the paddock and in order
General housekeeping and equipment clean-up of the Holding barn area to ensure safety and health standards are being met.
Report any discrepancies or problems to onsite Veterinarians or racing officials.
Perform all other duties as assigned
Education:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 8 years related experience and/or training; or combination.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of Thoroughbred horses.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Training:
1 year work related experience and/or training; or combination.
Licenses/Certifications/Other:
Must be able to pass a background check and receive a license or permit from any Regulatory Agency, if applicable to perform the essential job functions
Texas Racing Commission License (TXRC)
