    Job Description

    General Definition:

    • Responsible for the upkeep and care of the holding barn and aiding the onsite racing officials during live horse racing.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Maintains a clean and sanitary worksite
    • Calls horses up to holding barn for each race
    • Weigh each horse upon arrival
    • Input weights in the computer for each race
    • Provide numbered vests for grooms
    • See that horses leave on time for the paddock and in order
    • General housekeeping and equipment clean-up of the Holding barn area to ensure safety and health standards are being met.
    • Report any discrepancies or problems to onsite Veterinarians or racing officials.
    • Perform all other duties as assigned

    Education:

    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 8 years related experience and/or training; or combination.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of Thoroughbred horses.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
    • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

    Training:

    • 1 year work related experience and/or training; or combination.

    Licenses/Certifications/Other:

    • Must be able to pass a background check and receive a license or permit from any Regulatory Agency, if applicable to perform the essential job functions
    • Texas Racing Commission License (TXRC)

    • Strength:

    • Medium to Heavy workload

    • Stand, sit and walk consistently

    • Will be required to lift up to or over 20lbs or exert occasionally over 100lbs

    • Movement:

    • Will consistently be required to touch, feel, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, reach

    • Will use office equipment

    • Driving motor vehicles as needed

    • Auditory:

    • Frequently speak and articulate

    • Noise levels will be varied from moderate to heavy machinery

    • Environmental:

    • Exposure to weather and extreme elements

    • Minimal exposure in close proximity to horses
