Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are representative but not all-inclusive:
Leadership & Operations
- Support the Shift Supervisor in directing, scheduling, and coordinating daily Holding House operations.
- Provide daily work directions, training, and support to Holding House employees.
- Monitor efficiency, safety, quality, and animal welfare; report issues and assist with corrective actions.
- Assist with employee coaching, safety meetings, and documentation assigned.
Animal Handling
- Move ducks in accordance with Duck Well-Being guidelines, including density and weather requirements.
- Train employees and Market Age Duck Drivers on proper duck handling, fatigued duck procedures, and use of totes/carts.
- Identify and report animal welfare concerns to supervision.
Equipment, Facilities & Maintenance
- Ensure trucks, trailers, and equipment are cleaned and disinfected to company standards.
- Monitor and report irregularities in truck wash systems, water lines, ventilation, feed systems, and related equipment.
- Inspect equipment (tractors, skid loaders, trailers, etc.) and report maintenance needs.
- Perform minor maintenance and assist with preventive maintenance as assigned.
Compliance & Recordkeeping
- Promote and follow Duck Well-Being, safety, and biosecurity policies.
- Maintains required logs, records, and operational documentation.
- Communicate effectively with Holding House leadership, Processing Plant, and Transportation personnel.
Other Duties
- Assist with employee progression through the Labor Grade Training Program.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Completion of Labor Grade 1 training or equivalent relevant experience required.
- Strong preference for candidates with prior experience in the poultry industry.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read and comprehend written instructions in English; bilingual proficiency is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments.
- Ability to train employees in safety, Duck Well-Being, and Biosecurity policies.
- Basic understanding of hand tools preferred.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and focused during high-pressure situations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to safely handle and lift live poultry (up to 10 lbs.) with regular bending and twisting.
- Ability to climb ladders at a moderate level.
- Must be self-reliant and capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Ability to safely operate required equipment, including tractors, bobcats, and trucks, in accordance with company standards and operational guidelines.
- Must maintain active certification in full facial respirator use, including successful completion of annual re-certification requirements.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments in all weather conditions.
- Physical demands include heavy lifting, prolonged walking, bending, twisting, unloading trailers, and equipment washing using industrial pressure-washing systems.
- Exposure to chemicals, disinfectants, and solvents may occur.
- Weekend work may be required based on business needs.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
- Company-provided PPE includes non-slip footwear, bump cap, gloves, weather gear, hearing protection, and dust mask.
- One pair of non-slip footwear is provided within the first 60 days of employment.
- Upon completion of the orientation period, employees will be placed on the footwear program.
- Certified in full facial respirator use and re-certified annually.
