Position Summary
Help fulfill the university's mission by teaching students and providing content expertise in marriage, family, and child development. Teaching responsibilities may vary depending on the strengths of the successful candidate. Possible teaching assignments include courses related to child development theory and milestones, parenting and child guidance, marriage and family relations, research methods, and theories of family relationships.
This position directly teaches and prepares students for a variety of careers in marriage, family, and child development. Additional responsibilities include advising students and other department and university assignments.
Throughout their careers, all BYU-Idaho faculty are expected to actively pursue professional development opportunities in learning and teaching and ongoing scholarly development within their discipline.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Advanced degree required (master's or doctorate) in Marriage and Family Studies, Child Development, or a closely related degree. Applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to and evidence of excellence in teaching with a strong academic background in both theory and concepts relating to marriage, family, and child development. Other helpful experiences include practical field experience and designing and teaching online courses.
Work Schedule
Full-time faculty members teach 36 load hours annually, across Fall, Winter, and Spring Semesters; this total includes up to 6 load hours of professional development. In the days immediately preceding and following semesters, faculty members attend meetings, grade papers, perform professional development activities, etc. Semesters last approximately 14 weeks, and annual faculty contracts cover 47.5 weeks.
