About this Job: General Summary of Position
The Professional Development Specialist is accountable for leading professional development and clinical education initiatives for multidisciplinary patient care associates and clinical leaders within MedStar Health Home Care. In collaboration with the Director of Interprofessional Education and Development Director of Therapy Operations Quality and other organizational leaders this role assesses learning and development needs and oversees the planning development implementation and evaluation of educational programs and initiatives that support clinical practice associate competency professional growth and leadership development.The Professional Development Specialist guides the development and implementation of evidence-based practices and supports department leaders in advancing clinical care staff development education performance improvement and compliance with external regulatory and accreditation standards. This role fosters a culture of continuous learning and professional development across the organization.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards SPIRIT values and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
• Assumes responsibility for the planning development execution and ongoing evaluation of MedStar Health Home Care multidisciplinary (nursing therapy and support staff) training ongoing development and education programs. Assesses learning needs through formal and informal approaches to determine knowledge and educational gaps and priorities to meet the learning needs of associates. Applies teaching techniques that promote critical thinking and evidence-based practice incorporating principles of adult learning theory.
• In collaboration with the Director of Nursing Education and Interprofessional Development Director of Therapy Operations and Quality develops professional development goals objectives and desired outcomes. Ensures adherence to MedStar Health and MedStar Health Home Care's policies procedures standards/guidelines and those of regulatory and accreditation agencies; assists in execution of education related to corrective action plans.
• Collaborates with operational leaders and other department heads including nursing practice and informatics in addressing priorities and implementation of effective educational/training programs - in the classroom online simulation and direct patient care experiences including the client home environment.
• Plans orientation programs for new personnel to facilitate a new associate's transition to MedStar Health Home Care's clinical environment and meets competency assessment requirements in conformance with departmental objectives regulatory requirements value-based purchasing requirements patient experience requirements and accreditation standards.
• Provides expertise for competency development assessment and management across MedStar Health Home Care's clinical disciplines. Sets the standard plans and regularly conducts competency validation programs for all associates in partnership with discipline experts/leaders. Maintains appropriate documentation of these programs and activities as required by regulatory and accreditation standards. Supports clinical peer review in an evidence- based practice environment.
• Oversees the management of associate education and competency records learning management systems and user access. Applies knowledge of educational technology and informatics principles to optimize learning systems support accurate data management and reporting and enhance the delivery and evaluation of professional development and clinical education programs.
• Provides documentation of participation and level of success during competency and educational programs to meet requirements of all regulatory bodies. Analyzes and prepares reporting of education competencies and quality metrics to all necessary agencies to maintain accreditation standards.
• In collaboration with the Education Quality and Operations plans implements and evaluates continuing education and professional development programs that promote evidence-based practice adoption of new procedures technologies equipment patient care trends and specialty certification opportunities. Develops educational remediation plans and revises learning activities based on objective outcome and performance data.
• Fosters a culture of professional practice coaching and continuous learning by serving as a liaison among operational leaders external agencies professional organizations academic institutions and clinical programs. Establishes and maintains collaborative partnerships that support workforce development student-to-practice pathways specialty education and organizational learning initiatives.
• Provides skilled chart reviews and focused audits of clinical charts to ensure meeting agency policy/program OASIS accuracy impacting valued-based purchasing Joint Commission standards and regulatory requirements. Deficient areas identified may include written explanations
• Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the fields of nursing home health aide medical social work therapy and clinical instruction nursing education and multidisciplinary professional development through a variety of professional activities including but not limited to reading the appropriate literature and attending related seminars and conferences. Demonstrates accountability for own professional development and advancement.
• Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings serves on committees and represents the department and facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
• Regularly performs field visits and provides direct patient care within the scope of their licensed discipline to maintain clinical competency support onboarding training and mentorship of clinicians evaluate adherence to practice standards and identify education and performance improvement opportunities. Maintains a defined minimum productivity expectation through direct patient care to ensure continued clinical expertise and operational support
• Minimal Qualifications
  Education
  • Master's degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited school required
  • Doctoral degree In Physical Therapy from an accredited school preferred or
  • Master's degree In Occupational Therapy from an accredited school
  Experience
  • 3-4 years Experience working in skilled home care required
  • 1-2 years Experience in education or professional development preferred
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  Licenses and Certifications
  • PT - Physical Therapist in the District of Columbia and Maryland (or ability to obtain licensure). required or
  • AOTA - Occupational Therapy in the District of Columbia and Maryland (or ability to obtain licensure) required
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
  • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.

  This position has a hiring range of : USD $74,214.00 - USD $134,596.00 /Yr.
