POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision performs daily work assignments for the Senior Center Division of the Community Services Department in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority.
RECRUITMENT QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Sufficient education to perform essential duties and understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Proof of a valid New Mexico Food Handler Card must be provided on or before hire date.
- Valid New Mexico Drivers License with a driving record acceptable to the City of Alamogordo.
- Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Desired
- Experience as a commercial food delivery driver.
- Experience working with senior citizens.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties
- Provides daily assistance with the Home Delivered Meal Program offered by the Alamo Senior Center.
- Sets up home delivery meal area with meal carriers, thermometers, extension cords, route sheets, donation bags, and other necessary items as needed to prepare for daily packing.
- Ensures that thermometers are calibrated, records temperatures in the designated logbook to maintain safety standards.
- Packages homebound meals for daily delivery, which usually involves handling approximately 400 individual cold, dry, and hot food items and placing them into carriers.
- Safely operates a City vehicle to deliver meals to homebound senior citizens in the community.
- Delivers up to two routes per day of approximately two hours each, collects used trays, and returns them to the Senior Center.
- Returns bags, thermometers, extension cords, and route sheets to the office as appropriate.
- Documents and promptly reports any concerns regarding a clients well-being to the supervisor.
- May assist with State required reassessments for clients receiving meals through the Home Delivered Meal Program.
- Prepares route sheets with changes for the next day deliveries, making changes accordingly.
- Cleans and sanitizes home delivery meal carriers upon return from routes each day.
- Cleans and sanitizes assigned vehicles upon return from routes each day; washes assigned vehicles every two weeks.
- Ensures work areas and assigned delivery vehicle are organized and clean.
- Reports any unsafe working conditions or faulty equipment to the supervisor immediately.
- May perform light office work.
- Contributes to a high-quality work culture through participation in training and mentoring to develop skills, including safety-related training and skills.
- Interacts professionally and provides excellent customer service to all levels of City staff and citizens to ensure high operational and service standards.
- Performs duties in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority.
OTHER IMPORTANT DUTIES
- Must obtain and maintain required licenses and/or certifications.
- Maintains the confidentiality of information obtained during the performance of duties.
- Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
