HOME SERVICES SUPERVISOR

POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, performs daily work assignments for the Senior Center Division of the Community Services Department in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority.

RECRUITMENT QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Associate's degree in business administration, social services, or a related field;
  • Three (3) years of experience in program administration;
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience;
  • Valid New Mexico Driver's License with a driving record acceptable to the City of Alamogordo;
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Required within thirty (30) days of hire date:

  • Complete WellSky training to access and use the on-line WellSky program; and
  • Valid New Mexico Food Handler Card.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties

  • Manages and supervises direct-report staff by coordinating, assigning, and reviewing work to ensure compliance with policies and procedures;
  • Conducts employee evaluations, introductory and annual; makes recommendations for hiring, promoting, and releasing employees;
  • Initiates and administers corrective action, as necessary, according to the Employee Manual;
  • Mentors employees to full potential and ensures appropriate training is given to meet the standards of the position held;
  • Maintains schedule and coordinates volunteers to assist in the daily delivery of meals under the Home Delivered Meal program;
  • Delivers meals for the Home Delivered Meal program in a City vehicle, as needed;
  • Gives presentations to local organizations concerning the Home Delivered Meal program;
  • Conducts assessments and reassessments as required by the State of seniors unable to function independently including interviewing, completing assessment, application, and evaluation forms, compiling required information, and preparing and submitting reports, as required; maintains client records and scans records to the State's AAA Data Entry Center;
  • Visits, and assesses the status of senior citizens inquiring about home-delivered meals;
  • Coordinates with doctors, home-care agencies, hospitals, social services, and the public by reporting senior citizens requiring assistance;
  • Coordinates with local business and social organizations to assist with the procurement of home repairs for senior participants when necessary;
  • Researches and develops new procedures and programs to maximize the efficiency of services provided;
  • Prepares various monthly reports, including State-required assessment/reassessment reports, reports regarding volunteer hours, new projects, etc. and submits to the appropriate City/State personnel;
  • Plans various programs with the Alamo Senior Center, local businesses and organizations, and Holloman Air Force Base (HAFB), including fitness days, dinner functions, and holiday programs; participates in similar events for the homebound seniors;
  • Plans and coordinates food baskets and holiday gifts/meals with local businesses and organizations;
  • Assists with various activities including working at dances, serving at special dinners, arranging for decorations, organizing special events, and accompanying seniors on trips;
  • Assists with developing fiscal division budgets, and monitors and approves expenditures;
  • Oversees inventory of supplies and completes purchase order paperwork following the City's Procurement Code and department rules and regulations; retains files and invoices;
  • Attends various meetings to address complaints and problem areas, and identify solutions;
  • Greets the public in person and on the telephone, answers questions relating to Senior Center services, takes messages, and directs individuals to appropriate parties when necessary;
  • Safely operates City vehicles;
  • Establishes procedures to assure the highest standards of risk management, employee safety, and risk avoidance;
  • Responsible for thoroughly investigating, reviewing, and addressing department or division accidents to prevent future occurrences and control risk management-related costs;
  • Contributes to a high-quality work culture through participation in training and mentoring to develop skills, including safety-related training and skills;
  • Interacts professionally and provides excellent customer service to all levels of City staff and citizens to ensure high operational and service standards; and
  • Performs duties in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority.

OTHER IMPORTANT DUTIES

  • The Alamo Senior Center is a backup emergency shelter for the community, and this position may be required to train on emergency response and/or perform certain emergency services as directed;
  • Must maintain required license(s);
  • Performs administrative duties, including typing correspondence, memos, and letters and filing various documents;
  • Duties may be performed outside of normal business hours for special events or projects;
  • Occasional travel may be necessary for training purposes;
  • Maintains the confidentiality of information obtained during the performance of duties; and
  • Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
