About Us
The Southeast Massachusetts Council on Advocacy (SEMCOA) mission is to advocate for and provide support to individuals, families, and communities in the areas of substance use, mental illness, domestic violence, homelessness, and parenting. SEMCOA operates four emergency assistance family shelters that provide supportive services to families and assist them with securing permanent housing. SEMCOA also provides residential recovery home treatment to individuals with substance use disorders, as well as transitional and permanent housing stability and support programs. Our portfolio also includes two graduate sober houses, the Family Preservation Program, as well as Greater Brockton and Greater Attleboro-Taunton Healthy Families programs.
Healthy Families Massachusetts (HFM) is a statewide, voluntary home-based family support and coaching program for first-time young parents funded by the Children’s Trust. This voluntary, home-based family support program is for first time young parents age 24 and younger and helps to create a stable and nurturing environment for the child, providing support during pregnancy and the child’s first three years of life. Home visitors teach parents about infant care, promote nurturing and attachment, practice effective parenting skills, and ensure parents have a solid understanding of healthy child development. Group services are offered to promote social connectedness. The program also assists parents on achieving personal goals related to education, employment, and the health/wellness of the family. In addition, resources and referrals are provided as appropriate.
