Description:
Certified homebound teachers provide direct, personalized instruction to students who are medically unable to attend school for an extended period. Instruction is tailored to the academic and physical needs of the homebound student. This is a supplemental assignment that reports to the Director of Exceptional Student Services (ESS).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide instructional services to students approved for homebound instruction due to medical need.
- Maintain accurate records of instructional time, activities, student progress, grades, attendance, and parent communication.
- Submit required documentation and weekly service logs to the ESS Department.
- Collaborate and communicate regularly with the counselor, teachers, and parents of the student regarding the academic progress and needs of the student.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA and District policy.
- Follow District safety procedures when providing instruction in homes, hospitals, or other approved locations.
Time and Compensation
- Homebound assignments may require up to five (5) hours per week per student, including four (4) hours of instruction and one (1) hour of preparation.
- The schedule and method of delivery of educational services shall be mutually agreed upon between the parent(s) or guardian(s) of the student and the teacher. These services can be provided in-person or virtually; however, services must be provided synchronously.
- Homebound teachers will be compensated at their hourly rate of pay.
Requirements:
- Valid Arizona teaching certificate. (Some assignments may require teachers to be appropriately certified in Special Education.)
- DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance.
- Edgenuity experience (preferred).
- Reliable transportation for travel to approved instructional locations.
