    Description

    General Summary of Position:

    The UMass Lowell Honors College is seeking qualified applicants to join our growing team of student success professionals.  An Honors College Specialist assists in tracking and evaluating students' honors academic progress, as well as guiding them in determining students' academic interests and objectives by helping students locate and navigate the resources they need to successfully complete their honors requirements.

    Major responsibilities include:

    • Help assigned students plan and map out their path to honors completion
    • Monitor student progress in order to intervene, guide, and recommend solutions to academic difficulties
    • Maintain current knowledge of courses/majors offered, prerequisites, general education and graduation requirements, university procedures, rules and regulations, and other student services
    • Maintain student records
    • Plan and execute specialist-related events for honors students
    • Other job duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications (Required):

    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing
    • Service-oriented: Intrinsic desire to help others succeed in reaching their goals
    • Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with students
    • Experience with observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from relevant sources, and maintaining student records.
    • Strong computer skills and ability to quickly adapt to new technology
    • Motivation for delivering empathetic, compassionate, consistent, accurate, developmental, student-focused, appreciative, and honest advising
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including days with possible evenings

    Additional Considerations: 

    • Preference will be given to candidates who have previous experience working with Honors students

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Prior experience working with student populations preferred.
    • Prior experience designing or running student events preferred.
