Location: Onsite – Mooseheart, Illinois
Schedule: Full-Time | 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Pay Range: $18 – $20 per hour
Mooseheart Child City & School is seeking compassionate and dedicated professionals to join our Horizons Residential Living team as a 2nd Shift Family Teacher. In this role, you will help create a supportive and structured residential environment for youth with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
As part of the Horizons Residential Living program, you will work alongside a team committed to helping youth build independence, confidence, and essential life skills. Your presence during the afternoon and evening hours plays an important role in maintaining routine, stability, and positive engagement within the residential home.
This position offers a rewarding opportunity to build meaningful relationships while supporting youth as they grow and develop.
As a Horizons 2nd Shift Family Teacher, you will:
Provide direct care, supervision, and support for youth in a residential home environment
Help maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing living space during afternoon and evening hours
Support youth with daily routines, including homework, meals, recreation, and bedtime preparation
Assist youth in developing independence, social skills, and positive coping strategies
Prepare snacks or meals and help maintain an organized household environment
Provide transportation for activities and appointments as needed
Administer medications as directed and follow established care plans
Collaborate with the Horizons Residential Living team to support youth development and well-being
Successful candidates will demonstrate patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to supporting youth.
Preferred qualifications include:
Direct Support Professional (DSP) certification required
Experience working with youth with developmental or intellectual disabilities preferred
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to demonstrate patience, empathy, and emotional intelligence
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative residential team
