Position Description

Provides a wide range of gardening activities and general maintenance in assigned park areas.

Duties/Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform essential duties to expected performance standards. Reasonable accommodations are made as required for persons with disabilities as defined under the Americans With Disabilities Act.

• Maintains anesthetically pleasing displays, gardens, plantings and other landscaping within assigned park areas. Performs landscape maintenance including weeding, watering, planting, pruning, dead heading and mulching.Applies chemicals as needed and directed to control weeds and insects. Maintains plants in greenhouse.
• Performs landscape maintenance including mowing, trimming, weeding, watering, planting, pruning, weed control.
• Operates vehicles, grounds maintenance equipment, power tools and various hand tools to perform job responsibilities. Interacts with the general public to answer questions and provide education regarding plants and gardens.
• Maintains service logs, task tracking, vehicle inspection sheets, daily check out sheets and other work records. Inputs information and uses computer software to generate records.
• Identifies and labels plants.
• Repairs and operates irrigation systems.
• Works assigned schedules, exhibits regular and punctual attendance and works outside of normal schedules as required.
• Collaborates internally, within and across departmental boundaries, to provide information and service to others in the organization to contribute to the effective operation of the agency and all staff.
• Leads volunteer groups in gardening activities as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A combination of appropriate education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is:

• High school degree or GED including two years of experience in plant care, landscaping and operation of landscaping equipment.
• Valid Ohio Drivers License which meets Five Rivers MetroParks insurance carrier guidelines.
• Ohio Pesticide Applicators License earned within two years.

Additional Information

Candidates must successfully complete a background check and drug screening test prior to employment.
