Position Summary: The Hospice Massage Therapist provides specialized, gentle touch therapy to patients in private residences, nursing facilities, and inpatient hospice units. The primary goal is to enhance the quality of life by reducing pain, anxiety, and physical discomfort while working as part of an interdisciplinary team (IDG).

Essential Duties:

  • Clinical Assessment: Evaluate patient physical condition and cognitive status to determine appropriate pressure and techniques (e.g., "Comfort Touch" or oncology massage).
  • Symptom Management: Utilize massage to alleviate common hospice symptoms including edema, muscle tension, dyspnea (shortness of breath), and terminal restlessness.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Participate in IDG meetings to coordinate care with nurses, social workers, and chaplains; document all sessions in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Family Support: Provide "respite touch" or education to caregivers on safe, gentle touch techniques for their loved ones.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all treatments adhere to the plan of care (POC) and Medicare/Medicaid hospice regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Licensure: Current state license as a Massage Therapist (LMT).
  • Specialized Training: Certification or documented experience in Geriatric, Oncology, or Palliative Massage.
  • Soft Skills: High level of empathy, ability to maintain professional boundaries, and comfort with death and dying.
  • Logistics: Ability to travel to various patient locations and adapt to non-traditional settings (bedside, wheelchairs).
