Hospice Patient Companion Volunteer

About the Role:
Solace Hospice & Palliative Care Inc is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Hospice Patient Companion Volunteer to join our mission of providing comfort and dignity to patients and families in Saint Charles, IL. Responsibilities:

• Provide compassionate companionship and emotional support to hospice patients in home or facility settings
• Engage patients in meaningful conversation, reading, music, or other comfort-focused activities
• Offer respite support to family caregivers by sitting with patients during scheduled visits
• Assist with light non-medical tasks such as letter writing, reading aloud, or playing games
• Communicate observations about patient well-being to the hospice care team as needed
• Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold the values of dignity and respect in all interactions
• Attend required volunteer orientation, training sessions, and team meetings

Requirements:

• Genuine compassion and sensitivity toward terminally ill patients and their families
• Strong active listening and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to maintain emotional boundaries and practice self-care in a palliative care environment
• Reliable, punctual, and committed to scheduled volunteer visits
• Completion of required hospice volunteer training and orientation program
• Must pass a background check prior to patient contact
• Experience in healthcare, social work, or caregiving is a plus but not required
