PeaceHealth in Bellingham, WA is seeking a Hospice Support Specialist for a Per Diem/Relief, 0.00 FTE, Day position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $21.59 - $32.39. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.

Job Summary

Responsible for providing dedicated clerical and administrative support to clinical and non-clinical interdisciplinary hospice team as well as front line service to patients and families. Applies knowledge and independent judgment to complete a wide range of assignments and resolve problems. Frequent contacts include internal and external customers to gather information or provide information. Provides excellent customer service to patients, families, staff, and external contacts. Team approach to clinical and non-clinical functions listed below through primary ownership and cross-training.

What you will do:

  • Assists clinicians and providers with scheduling and monitoring of Medicare benefit periods.
  • Facilitates intake/registration through electronic medical record (EMR) creation.
  • Monitors plans of care and certifications of terminal illness for compliance.
  • Audits and ensures accuracy of non-covered addendums, consents, and hospice item sets.
  • Verifies billing per state and federal hospice regulations to support reimbursement, including Medicaid pass through billing, insurance verifications, authorizations, and notifications.
  • Orders durable medical equipment per provider orders.
  • Manages health information systems, including order management, reporting, and data entry.
  • Manages travel contracts for continuity of care with other hospices.
  • Supports interdisciplinary team (nursing, social work, volunteers, bereavement, chaplains, holistic therapies) within EMR, both desktop and remote systems.
  • Supports general office management, including but not limited to, ordering clinical and office supplies for department, submitting work orders through facilities, answering phone calls, etc.
  • Schedules provider and multi-disciplinary visits according to the plan of care per Medicare regulations.

What you bring:

  • High School Diploma Required:
  • Minimum of 1 year Preferred: experience in a healthcare setting
  • Good customer service and interpersonal skills, including conflict management (Required)
  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills (Required)

Department / Location Specific Notes

All Hospice Houses: Essential functions may also include support of admissions, discharges, and volunteer services as well as basic housekeeping and cooking. WA Hospice Houses: WA Food Handlers permit required within 2 weeks of hire.
