Hours needed: weekdays during the daytime
A Hospice Volunteer plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to patients and their families during a challenging and emotional time. Bring your unique talents and skills to patients in your community.
Position Summary: Provides compassionate care and support for terminally ill patients and their families.
Functions & Responsibilities:
- Makes home visits and phone calls to patients and families. Activities may include respite care, companionship, recreation, shopping, light household chores and light meal preparation.
- Acts as an advocate and educator for the patient and family.
- Maintains scheduled visits in a consistent manner.
- Acts as liaison between volunteer coordinator, nursing staff, patient, patient’s family and other disciplines.
- Is aware of role as Agency representative in the community, fosters good community relations through attainment of customer satisfaction.
Qualifications:
- Compassionate, empathetic, and non-judgmental demeanor.
- Ability to listen and offer support in a sensitive and respectful manner.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Reliable and able to commit to the agreed upon schedule with the hospice team.
- Previous experience with volunteering, healthcare, or caregiving is beneficial but not required.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to professional standards.
- Must complete required background check and volunteer training.
