Title: Hospital Care Investigator | Medical Biller
Location: New York, NY 10037
Duration: 3+ months with very high possibility of extension
Shift Time: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM | 8.00 Hours/Day | 40.00 Hours/Week
Pay: $28/hr. -$30/hr. on w2

Schedule Notes

  • Experience in medical billing, billing edits, denials, and claims follow-up required.
  • Hands-on experience with EPIC and insurance billing processes required.
  • 1 year of experience with a bachelor’s degree or associate/GED with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Interviews will be conducted onsite.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Review accounts, correct claim edits, prepare and complete claims for submission to payers.
  • Post all types of payments and update patient accounting systems.
  • Complete both paper and electronic claims in a timely manner.
  • Effectively use computer systems.
  • Document patient information clearly and completely in systems.
  • Interact with other departments to complete billing on accounts.
  • Process rejections, denials, and other correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Process pre-authorizations, document responses in the system, and follow up as needed.
  • Audit patient accounts for accuracy.
  • Apply adjustments as needed.
  • Provide billing customer service and ensure conversations are documented accurately.
  • Process statements and enter information into the database.
  • Review past due bills and follow up on past due accounts.
  • Generate Patient Balance Aging reports and Insurance Aging reports and follow up with patients and insurance companies accordingly.
  • Arrange payment schedules with patients.
  • Refer accounts requiring escalation to the Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Attend all necessary training sessions to effectively perform day-to-day functions.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the Manager or Supervisor.
Education
  • Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university; or
  • High School diploma (or equivalent) approved by the State Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization, and four (4) years of full-time experience in interviewing, investigation, or a related field such as credit and collection follow-up or bookkeeping; or
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above.
  • College education may be substituted for experience on the basis that thirty (30) semester credits are equivalent to one (1) year of experience.
  • All candidates must have at least a High School diploma or its educational equivalent.
