A Hospital Laboratory Director is sought for a large clinical laboratory services network based in Nashville, TN (37203). The organization operates a fully automated esoteric core laboratory, a histology and microbiology operation, and a network of hospital-based rapid-response laboratories supporting more than 250 acute and rehabilitation hospitals, physician practices, surgery centers, and commercial accounts across multiple divisions.

The role. The Laboratory Director leads the full operational scope of the laboratory, setting and executing department strategies to meet quality, regulatory compliance, financial, and service goals. This position oversees financial operations by monitoring resource utilization, identifying variances, and preparing monthly operating reviews to keep service and fiscal targets on track. The Director ensures compliance with accrediting and regulatory bodies including CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, FDA, and CMS, and maintains current policies and procedures through annual review cycles. Vendor and supply contract relationships are managed in coordination with supply chain guidance, while a structured communication plan keeps department personnel consistently informed. The Director builds and develops the laboratory team through hiring, competency oversight, coaching, and performance management, and fosters a culture of open feedback and continuous improvement.

What we're looking for.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • National Certification as a Medical Technologist required
  • Active state laboratory license required where mandated (CA, FL, LA, NV, or TN) — required at time of submission
  • 5+ years of progressive laboratory management experience with complex laboratory operations required
  • Demonstrated leadership experience required
  • Hospital clinical laboratory experience preferred
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination required in accordance with applicable local, state, and/or federal law or regulations (medical or religious exemptions considered)
