HonorBridge is the largest Organ Procurement Organization in North Carolina. We partner with hospitals, transplant centers and other partners to coordinate the organ and tissue donation process. Job Summary: 

Due to growth, HonorBridge is recruiting for a Hospital Liaison. The Hospital Liaison ("HL") is responsible for the development and maintenance of professional relationships with key hospital personnel, thereby increasing the positive visibility of HonorBridge through creative hospital development activity and ultimately increasing the number of referrals and optimal donor processes with assigned hospitals.

This position requires travel to the assigned hospital (New Hanover Regional Medical Center) and other hospitals as needed. After hours (night and weekend) work is required as needed.

    • Develops and maintains a strategic plan on each assigned hospital in collaboration with hospital partners.
    • Initiates the design and implementation of strategies and tactics intended to increase organ and tissue donation in assigned hospitals.
    • Ensures goals are met.
    • Provides documentation of all hospital activity
  • Acts as a resource for hospital personnel in the development and review of CMS and Joint Commission policies and procedures specific to organ and tissue donation
  • Evaluates donor potential and effectiveness of hospital operations.
    • Utilizes appropriate HonorBridge staff in the development processes.
    • Uses survey and compliance tools.
    • Reviews hospital death records and conducts monthly death record reviews when applicable.
    • Prepares routine reports.
    • Develop quality improvement plan to improve overall donation process and outcomes.
    • Performs timely after-action reviews following case activity.
    • Identifies inconsistencies to the agreed upon donation process and delivers timely onsite follow up with hospitals.
    • Partner with hospital and HonorBridge peers during referrals and/or cases to support the donation process.
  • Encourages and directs education efforts for all hospital personnel involved in the referral of patients as potential organ/tissue donors.
    • Conducts informal and formal visits.
    • Routinely trains (in-services) staff on HonorBridge policies and procedures
    • Delivers professional education and lectures.
  • Provides opportunities for continual communication between hospital and HonorBridge staff in order to identify and resolve problems.
    • Works to decrease process barriers to donation and fosters a collaborative relationship with hospital partners.
    • Assures that follow-up on HonorBridge organ referrals is consistent and timely.
    • Coordinates all HonorBridge specific hospital development efforts at assigned hospitals.
    • Assures that hospital needs are met and HonorBridge potential is maximized.
    • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal HonorBridge donation services staff to foster interdependence and enhance collaboration.
    • Identifies hospital needs and preferences in regard to the HonorBridge referral process.
    • Ensures optimal process is in place and proactively resolves any issues that arise.
    • Conduct referral onsites and round on active referrals
  • Will maintain electronic medical record (EMR) access to all available hospitals.
    • Utilizes medical information from remote or onsite EMR access to obtain and review available medical records.
    • Maintains confidentiality of all patient and donor/recipient information

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting and/or carrying <20 lbs:  Greater than 65% of the time
  • Lifting and/or carrying <50 lbs:  Less than 35% of the time
  • Lifting and/or carrying <100 lbs:  N/A 

Work Environment: normal office environment, normal hospital environment, automobile travel within service area, after hours (night and weekend) work as needed is required. 

What we are looking for: 

  • Bachelor's Degree required. Marketing or communications degree strongly preferred.
  • A valid Driver's License is required.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
  • Ability to present to a variety of audiences.
  • Customer service oriented
  • Excellent negotiation and persuasion skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and be an effective time manager and multi-tasker.
  • A passion and commitment to organ and tissue donation.
