Summary

• The Hospitalist of Inpatient Services will under indirect supervision, provide and manage continuous, intensive direct medical diagnosis and health care services to emergency, units, and short-stay hospital inpatients on a 24 hour, 7-day-per-week basis.
• The incumbent maintains effective lines of communication with the medical staff, nursing, social work and management, and coordinates development, implementation and evaluation of standards of patient care.

Responsibilities

• Assesses, plans and evaluates medical care of assigned patients using current acceptable medical practice.
• Coordinates the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures necessary for effective and quality patient care.
• Maintains medical records of assigned patients consistent with accepted medical and legal practice.
• Works with the Quality Assurance Program to study and document the impact of various programs on health care delivery including costs. Assists the Quality Assurance Department in auditing medical records for proper documentation.
• Participates on hospital and health care committees as assigned.
• Evaluates the patients and writes admission orders. Writes holding orders for patients who have already been admitted and are waiting for the team evaluation and orders.
• Assist admitting teams as assigned. Performs related duties as required. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).

Experience

Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.

Education

Doctorate degree in Medicine is required.

Credentials

• Valid Florida Medical License,
• DEA board certification and board certification based on specialty are required.
• Other specialty certifications related to specialty are a plus.
• American Heart Association and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers may be required at the unit level upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.

Physical Requirements - Job function requires extended standing or walking. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds. Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices. Jobs in this group require frequent visual acuity to perform activities related to extended use of computers.
