AMG Specialty Hospital - Albuquerque is seeking a highly skilled Part Time Hospitalist for weekends with strong inpatient clinical expertise to join our Long-Term Acute Care (LTAC) team and provide comprehensive medical care to medically complex patients requiring extended acute-care hospitalization.

The AMG Specialty Hospital – Albuquerque Hospitalist plays a critical role in managing patients with complex medical conditions who are no longer appropriate for short-term acute care but continue to require extended acute hospital care, close physician oversight, and multidisciplinary care.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive medical management for medically complex LTAC patients.
  • Perform initial hospital evaluations, daily progress assessments, and discharge evaluations.
  • Develop and oversee individualized treatment plans in collaboration with nursing, respiratory therapy, rehabilitation, pharmacy, nutrition, case management, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Manage patients with complex conditions, including:
    • Prolonged mechanical ventilation and ventilator weaning
    • Acute and chronic respiratory failure
    • Severe infections and sepsis recovery
    • Complex wounds and wound infections
    • Multiple comorbidities and multisystem disease
    • Renal failure and patients requiring dialysis
    • Neurologic and neuromuscular conditions
    • Post-surgical complications and recovery
    • Complex medication and nutritional management
  • Provide clinical oversight during changes in patient condition and determine appropriate interventions or transfers when indicated.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and collaborate with the care team to promote safe, efficient progression of care.
  • Identify barriers to recovery and discharge and actively participate in length-of-stay and discharge planning.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, referring physicians, consultants, and members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and complete medical documentation supporting the patient's clinical condition, treatment plan, and ongoing need for LTAC-level care.
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, peer review, and other medical staff activities as appropriate.
  • Support a culture focused on clinical excellence, patient outcomes, appropriate resource utilization, and compassionate care.

Job Requirements

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Internal Medicine,  Pulmonary/Critical Care, or another appropriate specialty.
  • Current, unrestricted state medical license.
  • Current DEA registration.
  • Eligible for hospital medical staff privileges.
  • Hospital-based critical care SA experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience caring for medically complex, critically ill, or post-acute patients preferred.
  • Experience with ventilator management, respiratory failure, wound care, dialysis, and complex medical conditions is highly valued.
  • Strong communication, clinical judgment, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
