This role is pivotal in delivering an exceptional fine dining experience. The Host/Hostess is the first point of contact for guests and plays a crucial role in setting the tone for an exceptional fine dining experience. Responsible for warmly welcoming guests, managing reservations, and ensuring smooth and attentive service from arrival to departure, the Host/Hostess contributes to creating memorable dining experiences while upholding the restaurant’s high standards of hospitality.
Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities:
- Warmly greet and seat guests in accordance with the restaurant’s service flow, ensuring each guest feels welcome and valued.
- Manage the waiting list efficiently, communicating accurate wait times to both guests and management.
- Answer phone calls promptly and courteously, providing information and taking reservations with professionalism and poise.
- Accurately handle reservations, including recording, confirming, and accommodating special requests.
- Assist in maintaining and developing the guest database to enhance guest loyalty and personalized service.
- Keep the host stand area clean and organized, including updating menus and maintaining a professional appearance.
- Provide knowledgeable and engaging responses to guests' questions about menu items, culinary techniques, and restaurant details.
- Familiarize yourself with the restaurant’s menu, preparation methods, and common culinary terminology to better assist guests.
- Express gratitude to guests upon their departure, leaving a positive final impression.
- Prepare daily reservation sheets and manage table assignments to optimize the guest experience and service efficiency.
- Assist in pulling and arranging tables as needed to accommodate reservations and walk-ins.
- Under the guidance of management, help train new hosts and reservation staff on procedures and guest service standards.
- Report any issues or guest concerns to management promptly for quick resolution.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the physical workspace according to pre-shift, post-shift, daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules.
- May be responsible for coat check, transferring bar checks, or other ancillary tasks as required.
- Adhere to all safety and sanitation standards, including compliance with local health regulations.
- Foster a guest-focused environment, delivering a consistently outstanding hospitality experience.
Required Skills / Abilities / Competencies:
- Ability to maintain a calm, composed demeanor in high-stress situations while providing excellent customer service.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Basic math skills and familiarity with reservation management systems are preferred.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A passion for hospitality and a desire to inspire guests to embrace diverse cultures and cuisines.
- Promote and uphold the culture, values, and mission of Restaurant K ensuring alignment with company standards.
- To inspire people to embrace different cultures of the world.
Education and Experience:
- Must be at least (18) years of age.
- Possess a current Food Handler’s and TABC certification before starting work.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a fine dining or upscale casual environment is preferred.
- Previous experience with reservation systems is a plus.
Work Environment:
- Working during evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate peak dining hours.
- Occasional exposure to loud noise levels and varying temperatures, particularly when moving between the dining area and kitchen.
- Handling guest requests or issues in real-time, which may require quick problem-solving and adaptability.
- Collaborating with a diverse team of front-of-house and back-of-house staff in a structured yet flexible atmosphere.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand for periods of up to eight (8) hours.
- Must have the stamina to work a minimum of 40 hours per week.
- Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds at a time. Required to use assistance when available i.e. hand trucks, ramps, or another team member.
