Position Overview
The Host/Hostess is the first and last impression of MIKA Coral Gables. This role is responsible for warmly welcoming guests, managing reservations, coordinating seating, and ensuring every guest receives gracious, personalized hospitality from the moment they arrive until they depart.
As the face of the restaurant, the Host/Hostess plays a critical role in creating memorable first impressions while maintaining an organized flow of service and maximizing the dining experience for every guest.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Experience
- Greet every guest warmly and professionally within moments of arrival.
- Welcome guests by name whenever possible and acknowledge returning guests.
- Manage reservations, walk-ins, and waitlists using the restaurant's reservation platform.
- Escort guests to their tables while engaging in genuine, welcoming conversation.
- Present menus and introduce the server when appropriate.
- Thank guests sincerely as they depart and invite them to return.
Reservations & Seating
- Manage the reservation book to maximize seating efficiency while maintaining the guest experience.
- Coordinate table assignments with managers and service staff.
- Monitor table status and dining room flow throughout service.
- Communicate accurate wait times and keep waiting guests informed.
- Accommodate special requests whenever possible.
- Assist with private dining and event seating arrangements as directed.
Dining Room Coordination
- Maintain continuous communication with managers, servers, bartenders, and support staff regarding table availability and guest needs.
- Monitor pacing to ensure smooth service throughout the restaurant.
- Assist in maintaining proper table rotation among servers.
- Notify management of VIP guests, celebrations, allergies, or special accommodations.
- Support guest recovery by promptly communicating concerns to management.
Front Entrance & Reception Area
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming host stand.
- Ensure menus are clean and in excellent condition.
- Keep the reception and waiting areas neat and inviting.
- Answer telephone calls professionally and assist guests with reservations and inquiries.
- Respond to online reservation requests and guest messages as directed.
- Maintain knowledge of restaurant hours, menus, events, and policies.
Hospitality & Teamwork
- Embody MIKA's philosophy of "Hospitality of Home" in every guest interaction.
- Demonstrate professionalism, poise, and confidence in all situations.
- Assist other front-of-house team members when business demands.
- Participate in daily pre-shift meetings and ongoing training.
- Maintain MIKA's grooming, appearance, and uniform standards at all times.
- Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and service standards.
Qualifications
- Previous host or guest service experience preferred; upscale or fine dining experience is a plus.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Friendly, polished, and professional demeanor.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to remain calm and composed during busy service periods.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Experience with reservation systems such as OpenTable, Resy, or SevenRooms is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to move throughout the restaurant frequently during service.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to maintain a professional appearance throughout the shift.
