Host – Midway Diner 

Hosting is one of the most important roles in creating the guest experience at Midway Diner. Hosts set the tone for every visit by providing the first impression of warmth, hospitality, and service. Through their positive attitude and welcoming presence, they ensure guests feel acknowledged and cared for from the moment they arrive. Hosts are responsible for managing the flow of the dining room by balancing reservations, waitlists, table turns, and guest needs while maintaining a friendly and organized environment. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Demonstrate hospitality in every interaction with guests, staff, and anyone entering the restaurant.  

• Greet every guest warmly, promptly, and professionally upon arrival.  

• Manage reservations, wait lists, seating assignments, and guest requests efficiently.  

• Communicate accurate wait times and updates to guests throughout their visit.  

• Work closely with servers, managers, and the kitchen team to maintain smooth dining room flow.  

• Assist with to-go orders, including taking orders, communicating with guests, ensuring order accuracy, and providing a welcoming experience for all takeout customers. 

• Monitor guest needs while they wait and ensure guests are acknowledged and cared for.  

• Assist with seating guests, providing menus, and explaining the dining experience.  

• Communicate special requests, large parties, and guest concerns with the FOH team.  

• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the host stand, bathrooms, and entry area.  

• Answer phones professionally and assist guests with questions, reservations, and general information.  

• Support the FOH team by clearing tables, resetting sections, and assisting wherever needed.  

• Help identify guests who may need additional attention and communicate concerns to management.  

• Maintain knowledge of menu items, restaurant procedures, and daily specials.  

• Complete opening and closing duties as assigned.  

• Contribute to a positive team environment through communication, reliability, and a commitment to hospitality. 

Skills & Knowledge

• Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure  

• Team-oriented attitude and willingness to support others
