Job Title:                     Family Living Director                          Department:    Residential

Supervisor:                  Program Director                                  FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

Summary
At Bello Machre, we call our House Managers Family Living Directors.  Family Living Director’s (FLD) provides oversight for one of our community-based residential homes, providing care and support to three (maximum of six) adults with developmental disabilities.  Due to the nature of our program – residential – hours may be weekdays and/or weekends, and may be a live-in or live-out position. Scheduling is based upon the needs of the home and care and support of the residents of the home and may vary each week.  Family Living Directors may work up to their specific work commitment, per week, and may not exceed the given budget per week unless express approval by the direct supervisor is received. 

Supervisory Responsibilities - Directly supervises all Direct Support Professionals assigned to their home. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience 
A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required; a college degree is preferred. A minimum of 2 years of experience working in the human services field, with experience providing direct care services and a minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience is required. 

Trainings, Licenses, and Certifications -The employee must have and maintain a valid Maryland driver’s license.  They may not have more than three points on their license at any time and may not have any alcohol and/or drug related citations on their license. 

Training may be provided uponhire.

Physical Demands - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, bend, lift, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently lifts and transfers, and must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. 

The employee must maintain skills necessary to safely and efficiently operate various types of equipment to perform their job, which may include the use of mechanical lifts, electronic scales, shower and bath equipment, and adjustable chairs/beds.

Environment- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be in a variety of locations and conditions, including but not limited to the home, various offices, and out in the community.  The employee may travel by automobile and may transport those we serve to varying distances and locations and may require overnight accommodations. 

OSHA - Employees in this position perform tasks that may involve potential exposure to blood and other bodily fluids.  All employees are expected to utilize universal precautions and follow all safety guidelines.  All employees are offered the opportunity to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination at no cost to them, and at any time during their employment.

  • Report medical concerns, conditions, and changes in health status in a timely fashion to the appropriate medical personnel. Consistently respond to medical emergencies effectively and efficiently.

 

  • Maintain accurate (such as medical, financial, and personal outcomes records); Complete injury and incident reports and other organization records as necessary; Submit documentation to appropriate sources in a timely fashion; Provide receipts for monies spent within the home; Document in the Daily Log and Mileage Log books; Maintain confidentiality and ethical practice. Prepare for and review all documentation related to the Person-Centered Plan (PCP).

 

  • Administer and maintain ongoing medication and physician orders, which may include tracking any trends and related information; Ensure medical needs are fulfilled and records are maintained.

 

  • Provide a home that is well-maintained and organized, and ensure it reflects the interests and personal tastes of the people living there; Assist in maintaining a family-style household, which includes cooking balanced meals according to their needs and preferences and maintaining house cleanliness; Provide an environment that promotes freedom of movement throughout the common areas of the home; Provide a safe environment (interior and exterior) that is well maintained and organized; Report maintenance needs timely to the appropriate supervisor.

 

  • Provide outstanding support and services for people with developmental disabilities, enabling them to participate as fully as they wish in all aspects of community life; Support and advocate for them in relation to their freedom of choice and fundamental rights; Support and promote them by providing choice in all aspects of their lives.  Assists individuals in the development of friendships and other relationships; Assists individuals to become an active participant in their community and to build natural support networks; Assists individuals with daily household management and transportation needs to maximize independence.

 

  • Provide individualized attention, which encourages each person’s ability to maintain the highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being. Be knowledgeable of the individualized care plan for each person and provide support to them according to their care plan; Provide information to relevant parties with specific information and observations of their needs and preferences to maintain an updated plan. Attend to the individual needs of each person, which may include assistance with grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, or other needs in keeping with their care requirements.

 

  • Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each person in the delivery of services to them; Interact with each person in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment. Fully understand all aspects of fundamental rights, including the right to be free from restraints and free of abuse; Responsible for promptly reporting to the appropriate administrative staff incidents or evidence of abuse or neglect.

 

  • Communicate and interact positively and effectively with each person, visitors, family members, peers, and supervisors.

 

  • Attend mandatory meetings, to include in-services, supervisory meetings, and the annual “Person Centered Plan” meeting for each person served; Organize and conduct house meetings on a regular basis to coordinate successful functions in the home.

 

  • Manage house schedule to ensure proper coverage at all times; Manage house hours, budget, and overtime while still providing optimal care and support for the people in the home.

 

  • Supervise, support, and train house staff; Review and approve timesheets.

 

  • Utilize Bello Machre’s automated time and attendance system to document and maintain accurate work time, work location, and work title; Communicate with supervisor for any time off needs, change in schedule that may create overtime, and ensure coverage for your shift as appropriate.

 

  • Ensure a safe environment where individuals are free from abuse and neglect; Assist individuals in obtaining appropriate medical and therapeutic services; Participate in fire drills and other emergency evacuations. Follow and promote safety practices in the home, vehicle, and community in order to work in a safe and productive manner; Report and correct potentially hazardous situations; Participate in all safety-related trainings.
  • Respond to all phone calls and emails within 24 hours.
  • Ensure that all deadlines are met in a reasonable manner.
