Position Overview
An established healthcare organization is seeking an experienced House Supervisor to provide operational and clinical leadership during evening hours, weekends, holidays, and other periods when department leadership is not on-site. This role is responsible for overseeing patient care operations, supporting staff, maintaining patient flow, coordinating resources, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
The House Supervisor serves as a key clinical resource, responds to emergency situations, and provides leadership across departments to support safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight of hospital operations during assigned shifts in the absence of senior leadership.
  • Monitor patient flow, bed utilization, admissions, transfers, and discharges to support continuity of care.
  • Conduct rounds throughout departments and patient care areas to assess operational and clinical needs.
  • Respond to emergency codes, rapid response events, and critical incidents.
  • Assume leadership responsibilities during emergency situations and manage incident command activities until designated personnel arrive.
  • Coordinate staffing, equipment, and supply deployment based on operational needs.
  • Collaborate with nursing leaders, physicians, case management, infection prevention, emergency department staff, and ancillary departments regarding patient placement and safety.
  • Support quality patient care through staff guidance, mentorship, coaching, and problem-solving.
  • Interpret organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements for staff and stakeholders.
  • Facilitate effective communication among departments to maintain daily operations.
  • Assist with orientation, education, and ongoing development of clinical staff.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives and organizational quality goals.
  • Support compliance with state, federal, and accreditation requirements.
  • Provide input regarding staff performance, competency assessments, and disciplinary processes when appropriate.
  • Promote a positive patient experience through responsive leadership and service excellence.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing.
  • BSN currently in progress or willingness to obtain a BSN within three (3) years of hire (for applicable hires after February 2025).
  • Advanced nursing degree programs that include BSN-level preparation may satisfy this requirement.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of recent clinical nursing experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong understanding of nursing practice standards, patient care principles, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and other healthcare-related computer applications.
  • Current New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of utilization review, discharge planning, case management, and evidence-based patient status criteria.
  • Experience supporting patient placement and throughput initiatives.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience in an acute care or behavioral health environment.
