House Supervisor (RN) – Night Shift

Vernon Health is seeking a Registered Nurse House Supervisor to provide clinical leadership and operational oversight during overnight hours. This role is ideal for a nursing professional who excels in decision-making, patient care coordination, staff support, and hospital operations.

As the onsite nursing and administrative leader during assigned shifts, the House Supervisor ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care while supporting staff, resolving operational challenges, and maintaining continuity of care across all departments.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight of hospital operations during assigned shifts.
• Serve as the liaison between patient care units, physicians, leadership, and support departments.
• Coordinate nursing activities and ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and clinical standards.
• Conduct routine rounds on patient care units to assess staffing, patient care needs, and resource availability.
• Monitor staffing levels, attendance, and schedule adjustments to ensure safe patient care coverage.
• Serve as a clinical resource and provide hands-on patient care support as needed, including responding to emergencies and assisting with complex patient situations.
• Investigate, document, and address patient, family, visitor, and provider concerns while promoting effective communication and conflict resolution.
• Support risk management, infection prevention, safety initiatives, incident reporting, and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in quality improvement and performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and operational effectiveness.
• Assist with orientation, staff development, competency validation, and ongoing education activities.
• Communicate nursing service activities, staffing concerns, and significant events to Nursing Leadership.
• Serve as the hospital administrative representative during nights, weekends, holidays, and in the absence of department managers or directors.

Required Qualifications

• Current Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Minimum two years of hospital-based nursing experience strongly preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and make timely decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• PALS, NRP, and TNCC certifications obtained within 18 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and assist with transferring patients, including lifting up to 50 pounds and supporting heavier transfers with appropriate assistive devices.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and movement throughout the shift.
• Ability to communicate effectively and assess environmental and patient safety concerns.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a hospital setting with potential exposure to infectious agents and hazardous medications. Daily use of medical equipment, monitoring devices, computers, and electronic health record systems is required.
