Job Description

Are you a practical, hands-on problem solver who enjoys working with people, keeping services safe and compliant, and making sure things get done properly?

About you

You are an operational, practical and enthusiastic person who enjoys being close to the work, supporting teams on the ground and finding sensible solutions. You understand the importance of compliance, but you also know how to apply it in a real-world housing maintenance environment. You will be confident working with operatives, contractors, managers and residents, and able to keep standards high while remaining approachable and supportive. You will also be comfortable managing contractors within the compliance area, making sure work is delivered safely, to the required standard, and within agreed timescales and budget.

You have:

  • A practical, hands-on approach to supervising compliance activity across housing maintenance services.
  • Experience, or the confidence to develop experience, in managing contractors within a compliance environment, including monitoring performance, following up actions and ensuring work is completed to the right standard and within budget.
  • Confidence using digital systems, records and reports to monitor work, evidence compliance and follow up actions.
  • The ability to build positive working relationships with operatives, contractors, colleagues and managers.
  • Good attention to detail, with the confidence to check quality, challenge where needed and make sure actions are completed.
  • An understanding of operational services, housing maintenance, health and safety, or statutory compliance would be advantageous.

Most importantly, you will bring enthusiasm, common sense and a positive can-do attitude, helping the team and our contractors deliver safe, reliable and compliant services for our tenants.

Please note, this post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check

About the role and the team

You will be joining a forward-thinking and proactive Housing Compliance Service, working to improve compliance across all council housing, communal areas and associated assets. This is an important operational role that helps make sure our homes and buildings remain safe, well maintained and compliant with statutory requirements.

Within Housing, we work as one team, supporting each other across operational, compliance, technical and customer-facing services. You will work closely with colleagues across Housing Maintenance, contractors and other internal teams to coordinate compliance activity, resolve issues and help drive continuous service improvement.

In this role, you will help manage the day-to-day delivery of housing compliance work across a range of areas, including inspection, servicing, remedial works, contractor performance, record keeping and quality assurance. You will play a key part in making sure compliance activity is planned, monitored and completed effectively.

You will also support service improvement by identifying practical ways to strengthen processes, improve reporting and ensure compliance information is accurate, accessible and up to date.

By working with supervisors, operatives, contractors and colleagues across the wider Housing Service, you will help maintain safe, reliable and compliant services for our tenants.
