Our RootsThe Reno-Sparks Indian Colony represents descendants of three Great Basin Indigenous peoples: the Numu (Northern Paiute), Newe (Western Shoshone), and Washeshu (Washoe). These communities lived in harmony with the land for generations before European contact, following seasonal cycles and forming small, efficient social groups for survival.Each group's name means "The People" in their own language, reflecting their deep cultural identity and connection to the Earth. They maintained strong traditions, respected neighboring tribes, and engaged in trade throughout the region.Today, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony continues to honor these traditions while supporting the well-being, culture, and future of its tribal community.Housing Leadership RoleThe Housing Director is the senior administrative leader of the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony Housing Department, guiding housing programs and resources so eligible Tribal members and families have safe, affordable, sustainable options. This role provides strategic direction, delivers on Tribal Council and Executive Leadership priorities, and ensures strong compliance and fiscal stewardship.Key responsibilities include department-wide leadership across housing management, development/rehabilitation, maintenance, resident services, grants, finance, procurement, contracts, and staff supervision; administration of NAHASDA/IHBG programs including the Indian Housing Plan (IHP) and Annual Performance Report (APR); oversight of HUD monitoring/audit responses and corrective actions; long-range housing strategy, needs assessments, and multi-year development and asset-management planning; and executive-level reporting and partnership coordination.Required qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in a related field (master's preferred or equivalent combination)- 5+ years relevant experience, including 3+ years management/supervision- Strong background in federal grants, budgets, procurement/contracts, compliance, and housing development- NAHASDA/IHBG and TDHE/Tribal government experience strongly preferredApply to help lead housing outcomes for the RSIC community.A Typical DayYour day starts onsite in Sparks with priorities set alongside the Tribal Administrator-reviewing program timelines, budget status, and any compliance deadlines. You'll shift between leadership check-ins with managers, reviewing draft materials headed to Executive Leadership/Tribal Council, and answering time-sensitive questions that keep projects and services moving.Midday often includes coordination with partners-HUD/ONAP, lenders, contractors, or internal departments-followed by document review (plans, reports, procurement items) to ensure readiness and accuracy. Some afternoons include site visits to see progress firsthand and to stay connected to resident needs.
