Housing & Residence Life Graduate Assistant
Position Overview
The Graduate Assistant (GA) for Housing & Residence Life supports the development, sustainability, and effectiveness of the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and contributes to the planning and execution of summer camp and conference operations. This position focuses on student leadership development, organizational advising, community engagement, and operational support. The GA works closely with professional staff and student leaders to foster a vibrant, inclusive residential experience while contributing to the successful management and revenue generation of summer programs.
Appointment Details
Status: Graduate Assistant (part-time, approximately 20 hours/week)
Term: Fall 2026-Spring 2027
Compensation: Tuition discount of 50%, on-campus studio apartment, meal plan during FY26-27
Reports to: Director of Housing
Primary Responsibilities
Residence Hall Association Advising & Leadership Development
- Serve as a primary advisor to the Residence Hall Association.
- Support student leaders in goal setting, meeting facilitation, and organizational planning.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention of RHA leaders.
- Guide student leaders in leadership development, collaboration, and ethical decision-making.
Programming & Engagement
- Support the planning, implementation, and assessment of RHA-sponsored programs and initiatives.
- Assist with campus-wide events such as welcome programs, community-building initiatives, and advocacy efforts.
- Encourage student involvement and representation across residential communities.
Summer Camp & Conference Operations
- Assist with the coordination and day-to-day operations of summer housing programs, including camps and conferences.
- Support client relations, including communication with internal and external partners.
- Aid in logistics such as housing assignments, check-in/check-out processes, and facility coordination.
- Collaborate with Housing & Residence Life staff to ensure a high-quality guest experience.
- Contribute to operational planning, assessment, and efforts to enhance summer revenue generation.
Organizational & Administrative Support
- Assist with RHA budget development, funding requests, purchasing, and financial tracking.
- Support summer operations administrative tasks, including scheduling, data tracking, and reporting.
- Support policy development, constitutional updates, and organizational documentation.
- Maintain records, reports, and communication related to RHA initiatives and summer programs.
Advocacy & Collaboration
- Support RHA's role as a voice for residential students by facilitating communication between students and Housing & Residence Life staff.
- Collaborate with campus partners (e.g., Student Government, Campus Activities, Dining, Facilities) to support residential initiatives and summer operations.
- Attend departmental meetings and represent Housing & Residence Life as appropriate.
Housing & Residence Life Support
- Assist with Housing & Residence Life initiatives, assessment, and special projects.
- Participate in duty/on-call rotation as required.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Admission to or enrollment in a graduate degree program at the institution
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- Demonstrated interest in student leadership development and/or residence life
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous involvement with Residence Hall Association, hall council, or student government
- Experience advising or supervising student leaders
- Experience with event planning, conference services, or summer housing operations
- Knowledge of budgeting and event planning
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student advocacy
