Summary:
• Our healthcare staffing team is seeking a compassionate and resourceful Housing Specialist to support families residing in a Family Shelter in the Bronx.
• This is an excellent contract-to-hire opportunity for someone who is passionate about housing advocacy, community resources, and helping families achieve long-term housing stability.
• In this role, you'll work directly with families to identify permanent housing opportunities, overcome barriers to housing, connect them with vital community resources, and guide them through every step of the housing process.

What You'll Do:
Housing Navigation & Case Management:
• Assess participants' housing needs, eligibility, and barriers to permanent housing.
• Develop individualized housing plans that promote long-term stability and self-sufficiency.
• Assist families with apartment searches, housing applications, and securing permanent housing.
• Help participants understand lease agreements, tenant rights, and responsibilities.
• Provide budgeting assistance and financial planning to support housing readiness.
• Conduct housing readiness workshops and educational sessions.
Landlord & Community Relations:
• Build and maintain relationships with landlords, brokers, property managers, and community organizations.
• Advocate on behalf of participants during the housing application and lease process.
• Mediate concerns between landlords and participants to support successful housing placements.
• Stay informed on available housing subsidies, public benefits, and affordable housing opportunities throughout New York City.
Participant Support:
• Connect participants with community resources, supportive services, and benefit programs.
• Conduct follow-up home visits after placement to promote housing stability and successful community integration.
• Provide advocacy, problem-solving, and ongoing support to help families maintain permanent housing.
• Assist with case closures and successful program exits.
Documentation & Compliance:
• Maintain accurate case notes, housing logs, reports, and participant documentation.
• Prepare residency verification letters and other required paperwork.
• Ensure all documentation meets agency, funding, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
Required:
• High School Diploma or GED required
• Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field preferred
• Minimum 3 years of experience in human services, case management, housing services, or a related field
• Experience working with individuals or families experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity strongly preferred
Preferred:
• Knowledge of the Housing First model
• Familiarity with NYC housing programs, rental assistance, subsidies, and public benefits
• Experience working with affordable housing providers, landlords, or property management
• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
• Experience with the CARES system is a plus
