We are seeking an experienced HR & Labor Generalist to serve as the primary Human Resources partner for our Northlake, Illinois manufacturing facility. This is an excellent opportunity for an HR professional who enjoys working closely with operations leaders, employees, and union leadership to drive employee engagement, labor relations, talent development, and business success.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

As the site HR leader, you will play a vital role in supporting both employees and management while helping shape workforce strategies and maintaining positive labor relations. 

 

  • Serve as the primary HR contact for the Northlake manufacturing facility.
  • Partner with site leadership on workforce planning, recruiting, retention, and succession planning initiatives.
  • Lead employee and labor relations activities and serve as the primary liaison with union leadership.
  • Provide guidance on employee relations matters, investigations, accommodations, corrective actions, and terminations.
  • Support talent acquisition efforts, including recruiting, interviewing, and hiring for exempt and professional roles.
  • Manage day-to-day labor relations processes, including grievances, job bidding, and collective bargaining agreement administration.
  • Participate in labor contract negotiations and proposal development.
  • Lead employee engagement, recognition, and development initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, regulations, company policies, and Affirmative Action requirements.
  • Represent Sun Chemical within the local community through participation in business and charitable organizations.

 

Required Education and Experience: 

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of HR management experience.
  • 2 years of HR experience in a unionized manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain confidentiality.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification.
  • Master's degree in HR or Labor Relations
  • Experience with HRIS systems such as SAP SuccessFactors, Workday, Oracle, or iCIMS.
  • Experience in continuous improvement and problem-solving initiatives.
