Department Information

The Department of Medicine within the IU School of Medicine is seeking an HR Business Partner to join our team of HR professionals.

Job Summary

The HR Business Partner delivers value-added service to leaders and employees that reflects the goals and objectives of the and unit department.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Manages the full cycle of HR services for faculty and staff in the Pulmonary and Critical Care division for the Department of Medicine.
  • Performs talent acquisition, talent management, performance management, corrective action, compensation, and leadership development.
  • Serves as the focal point for HR services for assigned division and as the primary HR partner for division administrator and chief.
  • Develops and executes innovative and proactive talent strategies aimed at developing and retaining quality candidates to meet the overall talent goals of the division. Partners with the department HR director to drive talent management processes including performance management, corrective action, and professional development.
  • Partners with department, school, and hospital-level partners in the coordination of faculty recruiting, compensation, as well as the annual review process.
  • Maintains compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Acts as Human Resource Management System (HRMS) processor for maintaining and updating data for various reports, creating and processing e-docs.
  • Disseminates information regarding new and updated procedures; including, but not limited to: compliance, benefits, employment policies, faculty policies, etc.

General Responsibilities

  • Utilizes and applies in-depth academic and staff HR body of knowledge and skills to provide tactical guidance for HR related matters like salary administration, hiring, training, and policy interpretation.
  • Resolves and provides solutions for more complex employee relations issues with continued partnership, counsel, and support from Centers of Expertise (COEs).
  • Provides HR support for academic personnel processes, including administration for academic leaves, policy review and consultation, visa-processing coordination, and facilitation of promotion and tenure procedures.
  • Collaborates with other business partners and managers to improve and build effective relationships to improve employee engagement and identify "high priority" retention needs.
  • Coaches leaders to help determine best solutions regarding policy interpretation, performance issues, workforce planning, change management, conflict resolution to ensure alignment and consistency across the university.
  • Provides HR consulting and problem-solving solutions on issues to leaders and managers.
  • Collaborates with HR COEs to roll out and support university-wide initiatives, ensures clients needs are understood and met, and delivers change management interventions.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelors degree

Preferred

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 3 years of Human Resources or related progressively responsible experience

Preferred

  • Experience working in a matrix-reporting organization structure, practicing HR work in a university/college setting with faculty and staff positions is desired

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Preferred

  • SHRM-CP/PHR within 1 year from date of hire

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary

Starting salary is $68,500.00 per year based on a combination of experience, skill level, education, training, and internal equity.
