Job Summary

The Baltimore Police Department is seeking a detail-oriented and professional HR Coordinator to provide essential administrative and front-line support to our diverse workforce. In this role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries while ensuring the integrity of departmental personnel data and compliance with City of Baltimore policies.

Essential Functions

• Maintain accurate employee files, update HR databases (HRIS), and handle sensitive information with discretion. • Ensure adherence to policies, prepare HR reports, and support audits. • Manage HR correspondence, create documents, schedule meetings, and support HR projects. • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint). • Act as the first point of contact for employee questions about payroll, leave, benefits, and City of Baltimore policies. • Accurately input, update, and retrieve employee information from HR/payroll systems. • Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude, ensuring high satisfaction with HR services. • Answer questions and resolve issues related to employee changes, payroll, time-off, and HR policies via phone, email, or chat. • Maintaining, updating, and ensuring accuracy of employee data in HRIS/Payroll systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Have a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience in human resource administration.

Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience. Non-supervisory experience or education may not be substituted for the required supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of human resource administration. • Ability to interview, select and place job applicants. • Ability to interpret and implement human resource policies and procedures. • Ability to speak and write effectively. • Ability to compile data and prepare statistical and narrative reports. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, management, and the public. • Ability to maintain human resources records.

Background Check

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening, and must be successfully completed.

Probation

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a 1-year mandatory probation.
