Human Resources Generalist

Freehold, NJ (20 minutes from Lakewood)

135K (Depending on Exp & Hrs)

24-30 hrs/week - Fridays remote


Overview

A growing consumer brand with a loyal national customer base is seeking a professional and hands-on HR Generalist to join its small but dynamic team. This role will support all people operations — from hiring and onboarding to compliance and employee experience. You’ll be the first dedicated HR hire and a key partner to the executive team in shaping internal processes and culture as the company continues to expand.

We’re looking for someone with maturity, strong follow-through, and a passion for building structure, as well as great knowledge of HR laws and procedures. You’ll be part of a mission-driven company with a loyal following and a leadership team that values people and culture. This is a ground-floor HR opportunity with the chance to build processes from the inside out and help shape the next phase of growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Handle employee onboarding and offboarding with professionalism and care
  • Maintain employee records and documentation, ensuring compliance with federal and state employment laws

  • Coordinate PTO tracking, timekeeping, and attendance policies

  • Support performance management processes, employee relations, and team communication

  • Assist with benefits administration and liaise with payroll when necessary

  • Proactively recommend improvements to people processes and workflows

  • Build strong relationships across the team and act as a go-to resource for HR-related needs

Ideal Candidate Profile
  • experience in an HR role, preferably in a growing small business or startup environment

  • Confident, approachable, and trustworthy

  • Detail-oriented and process-driven, with a strong sense of accountability

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong judgment and emotional intelligence

  • Familiarity with HR software or willingness to learn new tools quickly

  • Comfortable balancing structure with flexibility in a fast-changing environment
